2015 Ford Focus Electric

Ford’s all-electric Focus follows in line with its conventional siblings for a mid-cycle update.

As with the standard Focus hatchback, the Focus Electric gets revised nose and tail styling, though the differences are subtle. The grille is similar in shape to last year’s model, and the Electric model does without a new hood, headlights, and fenders. The interior also gets the revised centre stack and upgraded climate control system, but goes without the new electric parking brake and three-spoke steering wheel.

The Focus Electric impresses with its solid driving dynamics, eager steering, supple ride and smooth acceleration; its dual TFT-screen instrument cluster also coaches drivers to maximize range by coaching them to drive efficiently. If there’s a downside to the Focus Electric, it’s in the cargo bay: the battery pack consumes most of the vehicle’s trunk space.

Powering the Focus Electric is a 107-kW electric motor that puts out 142 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Its 23-kWh lithium-ion battery pack gives it a range of 122 km, and thanks to an on-board 6.6-kW charger, can be charged from empty in a bit more than three and a half hours on a 240-volt charger. The Focus Electric also features a smartphone application called MyFord Mobile, to monitor key vehicle functions and charge settings.

The Focus Electric is offered in a single trim, and includes six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and four-way manually adjustable passenger seat, eco-friendly cloth fabric, heated front seats, 60/40 split folding rear seats, dual-zone climate control, air conditioning, cabin air filter, proximity key with push-button start, nine-speaker Sony stereo system, eight-inch infotainment screen with Sync and MyFord Touch, two USB ports, navigation, tilt and telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual 12-volt power outlets, cruise control, overhead storage console, front and rear carpeted floor mats, ambient lighting, first-row map lights with theatre dimming, rear arm rest with storage, remote start, Smart Gauge with EcoGuide instrument cluster, 17-inch wheels, tire repair kit, perimeter alarm, Electric-specific grille with chrome accents, body colour power mirrors with integrated turn signals, integrated blind-spot mirror, LED tail light accents, chrome window trim, reverse camera and parking sensors.
